My Visitor

I've been hosting a special visitor for a few days, and while he's been happily busy helping me grade papers (my life--let me share the excitement), today I was so pleased to take him for an outing. Of course, as he should know by now, nothing is quite what he's expecting.

Today was the monthly meeting of my church group, and my visitor rode out with me to the Carmelite Monastery.

He wasn't particularly thrilled with this turn of events, expecting to find a bizarre conflagration of cats + nuns enacting Devious Medical Schemes, so he politely begged off accompanying me inside. When I emerged a few hours later, I found that he was quite pleased with the way he'd spent his time.

You see, my visitor just loves a little shop, and the monastery happens to have one.

Even though they were closed, I found him clinging to the gates, begging them to let him back in for just one more look around.

After I'd convinced him that they weren't going to reopen for him, and no, the nuns weren't hiding doomsday devices or death rays in the attached shed, he insisted on introducing me to a new friend.

He didn't really catch his name, but they apparently had a delightful conversation about the eating habits of local avian creatures, the nature of immortality, and the pitfalls of Vatican II. He promised me the entire drive home that he said not a word about the changes that Vatican IV would bring, and when we finally arrived at the house, we enjoyed a lovely cup of tea to chase away the chill.

He's with me for a few more days, and I fear I have little more to show Tiny Ten, as my current hometown is short on marvelous things.

Tomorrow: I'll show you his TARDIS. It's bigger on the inside.
