fourzoas: (W&G Knitting)

Now that we're (mostly) settled into the new place, I'm spending more time with my knitting and trying to finish up a few things and get some more baby gear going. The happiest moment came when I finally found the box containing my copy of Elizabeth Zimmermann's The Opinionated Knitter, which has a blanket pattern in it that I wanted to consider (Garter Stitch Blanket--link goes to ravelry, if you're a raveler).

I'm also itching to make a couple of wee sweaters and am considering breaking into my sock yarn stash (eep!) for materials; I like the idea of lighter weight wool fabrics for this climate, and while a sweater for me in sport or fingering weight would take ages, I think I can handle baby-sized items. And then, of course, there are my dreams of knitting a christening gown, which, come to think of it, should really be #1 with a bullet on my list of "next-ups."

LittleZ's Blue Blankie

I finally finished the last square of the blue log cabin blankie. Next up is seaming, then applying an edging, then washing the blanket to shrink it a bit. The yarn, Rowan Denim, is meant to shrink about 20% during the first wash. I'm taking a big risk with this blanket as the stitches are multidirectionally positioned, but I'm fairly mellow about that; at the end of the day, I'll have a somewhat square-ish, maybe a bit puckered blankie that should soften and wear well for however long the wee one wants to use it.

Before I do the sewing up, though, I thought I'd do a small poll to get some input on different order options. The border on the blanket will be in the dark blue color and about 4" around--like a chunky picture frame. These are the three options I'm currently considering:

Option A: Light Blue

Option B: Middle Blue

Option C: Dark Blue

So, if you have an opinion about which best pleases the eye, bring it on in the poll below.

Other Knitting

I've also been working up a gift blankie for a coworker's baby. It's not much to look at, just a big tan garter square (well, at the moment, it's a triangle, since I'm knitting it on the diagonal), but the yarn (Berroco Comfort) makes for a very squishy and soft fabric. I'm about to hit the middle, and I need to make some decisions about what comes next with regard to the border, so I've got a couple of questions about that too (color and border type). And just for giggles, here's a pic of the dull knitting so you can sort of see the the color.

So, here's the poll--oh, and a "woobie" is a childhood comfort item, in case you're wondering:
